Neonicotinoid Pesticides

 

A relatively new (about twenty years) class of insecticides that share a common mode of action. They affect the central nervous system of insects, resulting in paralysis and death.  They are derrived from nicotine.

Imidacloprid

 

Nicotine derived systemic insecticide. The most popular neonicotinoid. It was first registered in 1994 under the trade names Merit®, Admire®, AdvantageTM. It is moderately toxic and is linked to neurotoxic, reproductive, and mutagenic effects.
