US decline of honey-producing colonies

This chart show the decline of bee colonies in the United States between 1945 and 2006.

Our research shows that though there has always been some kind of CCD going on in bee hives, in 2006 there seemed to be a resurgence of mass bee death.

Economic impact of pollination on World food

According to The United Nations Environment Program, they estimate that bee pollination supports 71 out of 100 crops. In Europe alone, 84% of the 264 crop species are animal pollinated and 4,000 vegetable varieties exist thanks to pollination by bees.

The production value of one ton of pollinator-dependent crop is approximately five times higher than one of those crop categories that do not depend on insects.
